I've dosed off the speakers with a partner, and it seems to have utterly the same effect. It's all about being far enough away from your speakers to let the vibrato still click. And keeping them left right oriented. I've tried three doses this way, Energizer, Genesis, And First love. Meditated sitting indian style and practiced breathing while making sure not to touch my partner in any manner, so that it's a personal experience. It works, In fact it works just as well as taking these doses alone with over the ear's on. I also never sat upright indian style aside from these 3 experiences and I don't feel like it took away from anything. I was comfortable. And it's nice to discuss the immediate effects of a dose with someone after it's complete. I'd like to hear about other people with similar experiences.
Ok as for dosing with music playing low in the backround. I've done this several times. I use tool and nine inch nails, but I'm almost sure some pink floyd or a trip album of your choice would be suitable. I wouldn't do it and hope for the max results as obviously you're probably not going to get the whole dose. However doses still work, and it gives a pleasant distraction to the mind, something to occasionally zone in on when your thoughts are running rampant (as some doses invoke). I'm curious about anyone who's tried this and if you haven't, well, get to it. I wouldn't suggest heavy metal or anything too ridiculously distracting, Find something mellow and melodic. Let me know guys, is this a practical way for other people to get their dose on ? What sounds best with what doses? Explore, write me about it.
10,000 Days, Tool. Great album.

I have dosed with a partner, however not using speakers. We both would listen to trip, then talk about our closed eye trances we would have. Sometimes we do it in a dark room so we can project our visuals onto the walls. If we get lucky, sometimes I will receive mild hallucinations.
I would imagine if you had 2 speakers and they each shot to one ear it should work, not as good as if you were using headphones. But who am I to argue; you've tried it. I'll try this later perhaps.
Dosing sitting up is completely fine i've noticed. As you become more advanced, you'll notice you can dose ANYWHERE (car rides, sitting up, on the beach, even with backnoise) You'll be able to simply dismiss annoying sounds and not get distracted.
Make sure when you're playing music in the background it doesn't have too much of a bass beat; that could quickly thrust your attention to the wrong beats, the music beats, when you would want to be paying attention to binaural beats.

ive doser with a partner but we just pluged 2 sets of headphones into the same computer...
the problem with speakers is the exact same problem as converting your files to mp3s for ipods... some of the quality is lost, therefore decreasing if not destroying the effect... try my partner method if possible and i think you will be pleasantly surprised
