My first attempt at binaural beats was...quite a while ago and not on i-doser. I was helping a friend study astral projection when I stumbled on a page of binaural beats. I tried one that sounded interesting, but I didn't really hear anything so I alt+tabbed away. I didn't realize, however, that I had accidentally left the beat on until I noticed that typing was getting difficult and my brain was starting to feel like mush. I guess that's what got me interested, but I'm a bit ticked that...well, frankly, that was my most dramatic experience yet.
Equipment: Laptop, Bose around-the-ear cushiony headphones, and a perpetually dark basement.
Focusing method: Counting down
Dose #1 - Alcohol
Setting: Daytime, hotel room, TV and IMing on
As the setting would suggest, no effect, buuuut enough to get me interested.
Dose #2 - Orgasm QH
Setting: Absolute dark, absolute quiet and distractionless
Yes, yes, I'm a horny teenager, shush. But I'm a horny teenager in the name of science! Or something. I had spent most of the night reading these forums for advice and other experiences so I would have an idea of what dose I wanted to try and how to get it to work. I originally wanted to go straight to the full orgasm .drg, but I read somewhere that the brain needs to get accustomed to the beats first, and I admit I was a bit nervous about trying the full version. So I tried this one.
The onset of physical effects was....surprisingly fast: a tingling, prickly sensation in the legs, my body tensing up, a pulsating feeling like my heart was everywhere...I think my first mistake was breaking concentration to think, "Oh man, it's working!" because after that...nada. I stayed lying down for a while longer, wondering if it'd come back, but I gave up. I figured that I had killed the effect entirely, so I stopped the dose 2/3 of the way through and moved on. Mistake number two, I'm learning.
Dose #3 - Orgasm
Setting: Same as above
This was before I even knew about piggy-backing doses, mind. I'm just telling it like it happened. I thought I was ready this time. My brain was now adequately mushy enough to take the beats and turn them into a crazy-awesome experience. The effects of this one were the same as the QH version, but with lots and lots of shivering. Either that was supposed to happen, or it was very cold. The shivering lasted through most of it, and I didn't want to move to pull my blankets up just in case it wasn't cold but the effects of the dose. All I could think was, "Well, this sucks." Again, I didn't follow all the way through with the dose, but moved on.
Dose #4 - MultipleO
Setting: Same
By now, I figured that I needed to try something a bit stronger. My memory's a bit foggy on this one, mostly because it was extremely early in the morning at that point. It was more slightly more effective than orgasm, I remember, and lasted a bit longer and without the shivers. So it got my hopes up...a little.
Dose #5 - Reset
Setting: Afternoon, but in a dark room with no distractions
Now I knew what I was doing wrong. After reading more on the forums, I figured out that I probably needed to get my brain to a state where it could process the waves or something, and not do them one after another. This time, I was going to Reset, and then try the A-Bomb to see if this thing really was working on me. I started it and tried counting down from some 400 or 500 number (I was originally only counting down from 100, which ended up running out way too fast). After a while, I gave up on counting (I was flubbing half the numbers anyway) and just worked on relaxing...
I woke up near the end of the track in a panic. I knew that I was going to try A-Bomb next, and hearing the volume lower made me think of other users' descriptions of the A-Bomb track and I thought the 'bomb' was about to go off. Well, I don't think that's how it's supposed to go, but apparently I was all giggles and smiles when I walked past my parents afterwards to get a drink.
Dose #5 - A-Bomb
Setting: Same as above
I didn't really know what to expect with this one. I heard here that it's something like a rollercoaster...and I hate roller coasters. But I went with it because the other experiences made it seem like one I would definitely notice working and I'm hesitant to try any of the hallucinogens, and after episode with the Reset, I couldn't just not try it. xD
Started counting down from 457 or so, messing up the numbers the most on any number ending with 7 or triplets (444, 333, etc.). Every once in a while, especially after a change in the tone, I would ask myself, "How am I feeling?" First was mild anticipation, then anticipation like on Christmas Eve or waaaaaaay early Christmas morning, and then a little bit of fear. Whenever the fear came up, I'd unwillingly think, "Oh, it's just the sound, I'm safe." I think that's what really killed this one for me. However, near the end (I think?), I had a moment of full-scale "Oh crap, what's happening?!" panic...which again went away when logic kicked in. =_= I need to try this one when I'm actually in danger or something, because while my body was freaking out (I could feel my heart pounding away), my mind just didn't get the memo.
Aaaaaaaand, those have been my experiences so far. Next I plan on trying Condition instead of Reset before a dose (How did I not see that in the store?) and then trying again, maybe Lucid or OOB or Astral. Heck, if I had the cash for it, I'd try HoG/GoH since I seem to be getting some pretty tamed-down effects. xD But if you guys have any suggestions about how I can get the full, holy-smokes-what's-going-on effects, I would love to hear them. In the meantime, I'll keep tryin'![/i][/b]
