"I-DOSER PREMIUM" 2010 iPHONE APP REVIEW!

Let me make this clear: the 2010 iDoser app is a thousand times better than the old one! It was well worth the $5 and probably worth more -- this wide assortment of 15-minute ambient soundscapes are certainly more powerful than I expected!
THE DOSES: The old app had a somewhat shabby assortment of 5-minute doses that never quite did the trick for me. They were tones and carrier static only, but you could choose one of three short loops to go along with them if you so chose. And the loops weren't seamless, so that didn't help the effectiveness at all.
As for the 2010 app? 1000x better! Each dose is built into a pre-designed ambient soundtrack catered for each specific dose. Some of these are the exact same soundscapes found on the CDs and the iTunes store (not a bad thing). I feel that the soundscapes were all chosen pretty well, except when the music sounded a bit cheesey and overblasted during some tracks. Unfortunately, Hand of God was a victim of this---although it is still pretty powerful it is backed by a truly obnoxious rock-opera-type soundtrack that almost completely obliterates the tones. I would have thought that they would have taken the most precaution not to mess up one of their truly "premium" tracks.
Interestingly, the drug-related doses all had to be renamed, so that they wouldn't get rated for drug references in the App Store. Marijuana is now "Green", Cocaine is now "Snow", Opium is now "Poppies", and Peyote is now "Cactus Buttons". Apart from this, the tones underneath are very similar to many we know and love already.
Overall, the doses are miles ahead of the old app---they take the Simulations CDs and MP3s, boost them to a new level, and pack them all into a $5 app.
THE REST OF THE APP: The graphics are pretty good, a little blocky in my opinion, but that really doesn't matter does it (it's all about the sounds after all). The guide is a welcome new feature, and gives some pretty good information for beginners using the EXPERIENCE method. The graphics here are pretty shabby and hard to use, but again, that isn't as important as the material. As for the "live tuning" options, those are interesting to use--click "Info" and you can choose one of three extra binaural tones to layer on top of the current track, and even mix the volumes. While this seems pretty cool, I don't see how it works--wouldn't two binaural tones with different frequencies on top of each other change the binaural effect in the brain? I don't know how it works and I don't think it makes much of a difference, but it's another funky option to play around with.
CONCLUSION: A truly awesome app, a much better embodiment of what i-Doser is all about than the previous app was. I would advise anyone with the iPhone/iPod and the $5 to buy this app. It's another little donation to the company, and in return you get what is pretty much the Simulation CDs on steroids. A great deal, I'm happy I bought it.
